Yummy Mummy/Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery – is it worth the risk?

Ms Angelica Kavouni FRCS EBOPRAS Cosmetic Surgeon • Dec 18, 2012

I perform a number of Mommy Makeover combination surgeries (or Yummy Mummy as we term it in the UK).  There is no doubt that an increasing number of women are leaving their pregnancies until later in life, when the body has more difficulty ‘bouncing back’ in comparison to their younger counterparts.

Providing there is no underlying health pathology, this surgery is safe, tried and tested.  Patients seeking these procedures tend to be under 45 years old, generally are fit and healthy women who just want to return to their pre pregnancy state.

As a mother myself, I understand their concerns and am happy to help.  Combinations can include  tummy tuck (both conventional and ‘mini’), fat removal, breast enhancement and labiaplasty.   Breast uplift is the most common, which sees their own breast tissue gathered and placed back in a ‘perky’ position, in a newly formed pocket.  Sometimes, breast feeding leaves the breast quite empty, with very little breast tissue, in which case women can opt for implants at the same time.  Straight forward breast enlargement with implants is also a popular request.  The women I see don’t tend to ask for inflated chests – just to return to their breasts to their pre pregnancy state.

Anaesthesia techniques have refined a great deal over the last 10 to 15 years, which means time spent on the operating table is safe, with less of the negatives side effects of anaesthetics of old.  Modern day short scar techniques which I favour also mean less time is spent on the table under anaesthetic.

Combination yummy mummy surgical procedures are very well tolerated, and having several procedures performed at one time means less time can be spent healing – as well as patients seeing a financial saving.
