Facial filler reversal trend obvious in UK way before Kylie Jenner’s lip ‘shrinking’ says leading plastic surgeon, Ms Angelica Kavouni

IMG_2385There is no doubt in my mind that the burgeoning numbers of impressionable young women seeking facial filling has been spurred on by reality TV, such as ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ and the Kardashians.

I feel both personal and professional relief to see Kylie Jenner turn her back on her inflated lips, however it comes as no surprise as I’ve been seeing an increasing trend of women asking me to reverse their filler – both lips and cheeks.   I have never been a proponent of caricature-esque facial augmentation – my professional ethos of ‘enhance not change’ has served me well.  My patients know that when they leave my office they will look fresh and not ‘done’.

Almost all TEMPORARY lip fillers consist of an Hyaluronic Acid base, a substance which is naturally found in the body and is essentially sugar and water.  The good news with these products is that they degrade on their own over 3 – 6 months.  To speed up the process they can also be ‘melted’ using an injectable product called Hyaluronidase.

FAQ: will the skin be stretched and look odd?  The lip tissue should revert to its pre injected state.

Here’s hoping the terms ‘pillow face’ and ‘duck lips’ will soon be relegated to the history books.  Maybe even next year’s ‘Love Island’ will look completely different with the girls reverting to their natural beauty…hmmmmmmm can live in hope!
