I have been invited onto ITV’s This Morning couch tomorrow, to discuss the topic ‘how young is too young to have plastic surgery?’

An emotive subject with arguments for and against young women having surgery.  In my opinion it boils down to ethics and personal professional opinion.

Should an 11year old boy who is being bullied in the playground due to his bat ears be told to grin and bear it, or have a simple surgical procedure to correct this distressing problem? I know as a mother and plastic  surgeon that I see no problem with this solution.

Should a 14 year old girl who is jealous of her friend’s developing chest have implants or wait until puberty is fully complete? She may also be being bullied by her peers for her underdeveloped breasts….I would tell her to wait until 18 when she is more able to make a coherent, educated and mature choice.

The mother in the Daily Mail article is a big advocate of plastic surgery and saw no problem helping her daughters achieve the bodies of their dreams…I find the fact that both girls went under the knife at 15 worrying.

The majority of plastic surgery that I perform is to reverse the signs of ageing and is undertaken by mature women. It does seem that there exists a growing trend for the younger generation to seek to change their looks which is very sad.
