One in five cosmetic surgery patients ‘is unsuitable’ Metro 17.03.13

Ms Angelica Kavouni FRCS EBOPRAS Cosmetic Surgeon • Mar 18, 2013

There’s a piece in today’s Metro from BAAPS highlighting the problems of unfit patients undergoing cosmetic surgical procedures.

This has always been high risk in the private sector, as pre operative medical assessments are not routinely performed (unlike the NHS).

The article mentions the high number of unfit patients being referred by brokers or 3rd party referral companies.  It is important for your surgeon to actually assess you before surgery, as problems can often be identified when sitting face-to-face.

There is quite a lot of reliance on the prospective patient to be forthcoming about illnesses , medications and family history – so be as honest as you can on your initial consultation questionnaire.

If there are any key points I’m worried about, I will arrange a pre operative assessment with my anaesthetist, who will order blood tests or investigations if deemed necessary.

We want you to have a positive experience with a good, pleasing results – but not at any risk to your health!
