Pigmentation

Introduction

Dark circles, age spots, lentigos and melasma are all due to excessive melanin production in the skin. The other side of the spectrum is vitiligo ie light skin patches.

What?

Hyperpigmentation responds well to Fraxel® laser resurfacing and TCA chemical peels. A test patch in an inconspicuous place will need to be done to test skin sensitivity.

Where?

Cheeks, upper lip and around the eyes.

When?

Usually 30s+

How?

Multiple laser and /or peel treatments are required depending on the nature of the skin condition.

Aftercare

Wearing a sunscreen is a must, at least 30 SPF and "broad spectrum" (i.e. it blocks both UVA and UVB). A single day of excess sun can undo months of treatment.
Prescription creams used to lighten the skin contain hydroquinone. In more severe cases prescription creams with tretinoin and a cortisone cream may be used.

Risks

Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation is seen sometimes ie symptoms worsen before getting better.

How long (duration of treatment)?

30mins

Level of Pain?

Mild

Post Procedure Downtime

48 Hours

Cost for procedure?

From £240
